Our Nature Connection
Film Series
Our Nature Connection is a short film series spotlighting REI Cooperative Action Fund grantees whose work brings us back to a simple truth: We are nature, inseparable and interdependent.
Through these films, The Redford Center and REI highlight communities deepening their connection to the natural world, revealing how nature access restores health, well-being, and our sense of belonging on this planet, because it is part of us.
Boyz N The Wood
Resilience in the Redwoods
Taking a deep breath in nature can ground us in indescribable ways. CJ Goulding and Ron Griswell, founders of Boyz N The Wood, seek to make that experience more accessible for Black men who are historically underrepresented in outdoor pursuits.
In this short film, we meet men coming together amongst the California redwood trees to seek the healing they know they’ll find through building like minded community and listening to the lessons offered by the nature around them.
Marcus & Me
Connecting with Nature in Steel City
As part of the Outdoor Inclusion Coalition’s climbing program, ‘Big’ Marcus Schoffner shows ‘Little’ Marcus the ropes and explores the climbing potential of Pittsburgh’s industrial-era infrastructure.
These often overlooked adventure playgrounds in the heart of the city provide a valuable connection to nature and the outdoors for numerous underserved communities that surround them.
