Producer S. Leo Chiang is a filmmaker based in San Francisco & Taipei. His directed the Oscar-nominated short documentary ISLAND IN BETWEEN (Taiwan, 2023 – New York Times Op-Doc), the 5-part PBS series ASIAN AMERICANS (USA, 2020 – Peabody Award), and the Emmy & Gotham-nominated feature documentary OUR TIME MACHINE (USA, China, 2019 – Tribeca winner). Leo’s recent work as a producer includes AFTER THE RAIN (USA, China, 2021 – Special Jury Award, Doc NYC) and the upcoming film MY SISTER-IN-LAW, THE PRIME MINISTER (Iceland, USA).
Leo co-founded the Asian American Documentary Network (A-Doc), and has served as a mentor for documentary labs and fellowship programs globally, including the Hot Docs CrossCurrent & Blue Ice Fellowships (Canada), DMZ Docs Lab (Korea), Docs by the Sea (Indonesia), DocedgeKolkata (India), CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum (Taiwan), and AIDC (Australia). Leo is a Documentary branch member of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences (AMPAS).
