Ewan McNicol is a director, cinematographer, editor and producer who has been making films for over twenty years. He believes deeply in the magic of us everyday humans. His work is immersive, cinematic, and driven by character and story.
His feature documentary UNCERTAIN, co-directed with longtime creative partner Anna Sandilands, was awarded the Albert Maysles Documentary Director Award at Tribeca, earned Ewan a Cinema Eye Honors nomination for cinematography, and received critical acclaim from The New York Times, Variety and The Guardian. Ewan’s films have been curated and screened at MoMA in New York and the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, as well as at festivals including Sundance, Tribeca, CPH:DOX, BFI London and SXSW. His short films have picked up acclaim including a Webby Award and Vimeo Staff Picks. He is a BAFTA nominee, and his photography has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London. His projects have received support from the Sundance Institute and The Redford Center.
Alongside his documentary work, Ewan has directed and shot commercials with Anna that have aired during the Super Bowl and won Cannes Lions, Clios and One Show Pencils.
Ewan is co-founder of Ordinary Beings, a film studio focused on projects that connect us to each other and to the natural world.
