Derek vs Derek
In Devon, England, two implacably opposed tarmers are neighbours, both called Derek. One believes in intensive tarming, the other is giving his entire tarm over to nature. As tempers fray, wild animals escape, and the land is transformed, the film charts the two Derek’s often funny turbulent relationship.
The idyllic English countryside. An intensive farmer called Derek. One day his neighbour, also a Derek, forsakes tradition and starts to turn his land over to wild nature sparking a long-running feud.
One Derek believes in intensive farming, the other in creating a haven for nature. Rewilding Derek starts digging hundreds of ponds, is breeding endangered species and has wild boar turfing up his fields.
“I don’t know what he’s doing. It’s not farming. It’s a mess.” says intensive Derek. The film charts the two Dereks’ often funny turbulent relationship as tempers fray, wild animals escape, and the land is transformed.
Eventually intensive Derek comes to realise nature on his farm is disappearing. In a moving epiphany he admits he’s been wrong and decides to do something to bring nature back.
