Untitled Iditarod Project

A journey with Jody Potts-Joseph (Han Gwich’in) as she pursues her childhood dream of competing in the famed Iditarod while navigating the impacts of climate change on her dogs, the salmon relatives and her peoples’ way of life.

In this film we explore Alaska Native ways of life – being in relationship with the land and animals – and how Indigenous women embody the tip of the spear when it comes to protecting culture and addressing climate change. The film traces Jody Potts-Joseph’s journey, the journey of many women with the roles of mother, daughter, partner, and community leader, who also pursue their dreams. In Jody’s case – amongst the quiet of the snow and the howl of the wind as she trains to run the 2026 Iditarod.

The main participants include Jody Potts-Joseph, her husband, Jamey Joseph, her uncle Ben, children (Izzy, Quannah, and Denali), parents Adeline and Mike, Dog Team and Iditarod mushers.
