The Time Travelers

The story of the women and men going to the ends of the earth to reach back into the deep past to try and better understand the future for life on this planet.

The Time Travelers is to be a feature-length film on the subject of paleoclimate research and its methods. Paleoclimate research is such a crucial step in building the predictive models that inform climate policy, guide corporate action, and shape public dialogue, yet very little has been created on the subject in long-form video. The goal with this film is to utilize hard science and themes of landscape, time, and adventure to contextualize this complex issue and speak about “how we know” what we know about climate change in the present day.

The film will follow four paleoclimate expeditions, each in a vastly different environment, looking at different climate proxies. These expeditions will feature surreal and sublime landscapes, dwarfing the scientists and allowing the audience to contemplate the scale of our climate systems. The film’s closure will focus on the research vessel, The JOIDES Resolution, as it embarks on its final expedition into the Arctic North.
