If the Land Wins

As a centuries-old wool industry threatens to collapse, Jeanne Carver fights to reclaim the future of American wool.

WHEN GLOBALIZATION AND SYNTHETIC MATERIALS THREATENED TO WIPE OUT AMERICA’S CENTURIES-OLD WOOL INDUSTRY, MANY RANCHERS ABANDONED HOPE.

But on a historic Oregon ranch, Jeanne Carver and her husband Dan were already forging a revolutionary path—one where regenerative ranching could not only produce world-class wool but also heal the land under their care. Their vision was bold: to prove that well-managed herds of grazing animals restore ecosystems and deliver a superior natural fiber. Dan’s untimely death in 2021 left Jeanne standing alone at a crossroads. Where others might have faltered, she pushed forward, uniting ten other independent ranches across 3.6 million acres of American ranchland. Together, they became the leading producer of regenerative wool in the United States, earning their group a stronghold in the global marketplace.

As global fashion brands scramble for solutions to the escalating environmental impact of the textile industry, Jeanne has defied conventional wisdom to offer what synthetic fibers never can: a premium product that can mitigate carbon, protect water, strengthen rural communities – and transform industry. From her remote ranch to the inner workings of the global fashion supply chain, the film captures a pivotal, timely moment where two powerful forces – agriculture and fashion – must evolve together to survive. Jeanne’s journey from rancher to industry trailblazer reveals the fragile, urgent connection between what we wear and the world we inhabit. Supporting American wool is no longer just about tradition – it’s a fight for the future of our land.
