Nicolas Cadena

Program Officer

Nicolas “Nico” Cadena is a Colombian-born storyteller with a background in film and political science. After obtaining a BFA in Film & Politics from NYU, and a specialization from the Interdisciplinary Center for Development Studies at the University of the Andes, he has dedicated his time to exploring how community-centered storytelling can generate meaning and solidarity while seeking to expand the formal constraints of media-making.

Prior to joining The Redford Center in 2021, Nico was Manager of Community Partnerships for the StoryCorps Mobile Tour, a national oral-history and storytelling initiative. His work as a community liaison and field producer allowed him to travel across the United States, facilitating conversations that centered historically excluded voices, and teaching workshops around community archiving, storytelling and oral history.

After years spent on the road in Latin America and the U.S., Nico looks forward to calling California home. He can usually be found tumbling down self-directed research projects, exploring nearby landscapes, or devouring as much content as he can get his hands on.
